GOP Backs Vitter, Angelle for Governor, Caldwell for AG

The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish has made its endorsements in the race for Governor and Attorney General.  In the race for Governor, the local party endorsed Sen. David Vitter and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle.

For Attorney General, the party endorsed incumbent Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

The endorsement for Governor took on special significance because the Louisiana Republican Party is not making an endorsement for Governor.  However, the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish is the largest local Republican party in the state.  The endorsement gives a candidate to use the Republican logo and say that he is an endorsed Republican candidate in his advertising.

Endorsements are made by the EBR Republican Parish Executive Committee, which is elected by Republican voters in the parish.  The party uses candidate questionnaires and interviews to make its decisions. Local chairman Woody Jenkins said the endorsed candidates are the best qualified and most conservative choices.
