Retired Banker Van Guarino Passes Away

Central resident Van Guarino, age 76, passed away at his home on Saturday.

Guarino was a retired banker who was active in civic affairs in the City of Central.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Artina Rae Noto Guarino; children, Henry Guarino and Denise Kennedy, Van and Laura Guarino, and Judy and Anthony LoBue.

A native of New Orleans and born on St. Patrick’s Day, Van was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family and friends.

Van was a happily retired banker of 35 years and a faithful parishioner of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

His grandchildren are Rae Anne Firmin, Pete Joseph and Marlana Firmin, Rachel and Joe Johnson, John Firmin, Amy LoBue, Madison Guarino, Savannah Guarino, V.J. Guarino, Billy and Natalie Neck, and Kenny Neck; one great-grandchild, Kaylynn Grace Neck and many more to come who will honor and remember his legacy.

Van also leaves behind one brother, Bobby McGuire and wife Sylvia, and sisters- and brother-in-law Nettie McIntosh and Larry and Bertha Mancuso as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vic and Mickey Guarino; parents-in-law, Henry and Mary Noto; and brother-in-law Michael McIntosh.

In lieu of flowers, friends may send a donation to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or charity of choice in loving memory of Van Guarino.
